Example 1
Graph the whole number 5x+4=14 on the number line of this equation
Solution
Solve that equation 5x + 4=14
5x + 4=14
Subtract 4 on both sides
5x+4-4=14-4
5x=10
Divide 5 on both sides
5x/5=10/5
X=2

Example 2
Graph the whole number 4x+6(x+20) =460 on the number line of this equation
Solution
4x+6x+120=460
10x+120=460
Subtract 120 on both sides
10x+120-120=460-120
10x=340
Divide by 10 on both sides
10x/10=340/10
X=34

Example 3
Graph the whole number 2x+2(x+10) =240 on the number line of this equation
Solution
2x+2(x+10)=240
2x+2x+20 = 240
4x+20=240
Subtract 20 on both sides
4x+20-20=240-20
4x=220
Divide by 4 on both sides
4x/4=220/4
X=55

Example 4
Graph the whole number 4x+2(x+10) =260 on the number line of this equation
Solution
4x+2(x+10)=260
4x+2x+20 = 260
6x+20=260
Subtract 20 on both sides
6x+20-20=260-20
6x=240
Divide by 6 on both sides
6x/6=240/6
X=40

Example 5
Graph the whole number 2x+4(x+10) =220 on the number line of this equation
Solution
2x+4(x+10)=220
2x+4x+40 = 220
6x+40=220
Subtract 40 on both sides
6x+40-40=220-40
6x=180
Divide by 6 on both sides
6x/6=180/6
X=30

Example 6
Graph the whole number 3x+6(x+10) =240 on the number line of this equation
Solution
3x+6(x+10)=240
3x+6x+60 = 240
9x+60=240
Subtract 60 on both sides
9x+60-60=240-60
9x=180
Divide by 9 on both sides
9x/9=180/9
X=20

5x+2x-40 = 240
7x-40=240
add 40 on both sides
7x+40-40=240+40
7x=280
Divide by 7 on both sides
7x/7=280/7
X=40

Example 8
Graph the whole number x+2(x-20) =230 on the number line of this equation
Solution
x+2(x-20)=230
x+2x-40 = 230
3x-40=230
add 40 on both sides
3x+40-40=230+40
3x=270
Divide by 3 on both sides
3x/3=270/3
X=90
