Multiplication of monomials

After reading the below post, you will understand monomials completely as i have worked on addition and subtraction of monomials now let us together discuss on multiplication of monomials.

What is a monomials, do you remember? This was discuss earlier also. Well let me refresh it again.

Monomial is a term which has only one term in it. Remember it now...
Example for a monomial is -15c, 17x and so on...

Multiplication of monomials:- We have 2 steps to multiple the monomials and i have an example using both the methods :-


1 Step. Multiply the coefficients first.

8x and 5xy

Here 8 and 5 are the coefficients.

If we multiplied 8 and 5, we get 40

2 Step. Multiply the variable by adding their exponents.

8x and 5xy

Here x and y are variables.

By adding their exponents, we use

x^a + x^b = x(a+b)

x(1+1)

If we multiply the variable by adding their exponents, we get x². y
