Solve the equation x + 32 = 35 for x.

Solution:

x + 32 = 35 ( Now we have to add -32 on both sides. So we get,)

x + 32 – 32 = 35 – 32

x = 3

Example 2:

Solve the equation x – 39 = 40 for x.

Solution:

x – 39 = 40 (Now we have to add 39 on both sides. So we get,)

x – 39 + 39 = 40 + 39

x = 79

Example 3:

Solve the equation 2x = 32 for x.

Solution:

2x = 34 (Now we have to divide both sides by 2. So we get,)

2x= 32

`(2x)/2= 32/2`

x = 16

Example 4:

Solve the equation x ÷ 7 = 49 for x.

Solution:

x ÷ 7 = 49 ( This statement can be written as below.)

`x/7` = 49 ( Now we have to multiply both sides by 7, so we get)

`x/7` × 7 = 49 × 7

x = 343

Example 5:

Solve the equation (x × 3) – 1 = 35 for x.

Solution:

(x × 3) – 1 = 35

( First we have to evaluate the expressions within the parenthesis. So, x × 3 becomes 3x. Therefore, the given equation becomes like below.)

3x - 1 = 35 ( add 1 on both sides. So we get,)

3x - 1 + 1 = 35 + 1

3x = 36 ( divide both sides by 3)

`(3x)/3 ` = `36/3`

x = 12
